Mercur Named one of Brazil’s Best Brands in Stationery and Art Supplies Survey
Mercur takes 1st Place for Erasers for Eighth Consecutive Year
Miami, May 23, 2008 — In the annual “Melhores Marcas 2008″ (Best Brands) national survey in Brazil, Mercur was cited as the leading brand in erasers for the eighth consecutive year and was named 2nd place in glue sticks and 3rd place in liquid glues. The survey was conducted by the Brazilian trade journal Shops, Stationery, Information Technology, Toys ( LOJAS Papelaria, Informática, Brinquedos & Cia). Mercur also recently named Cláudio F. Andreis as their General Manager of Mercur USA.
“Winning first place for eight consecutive years in erasers is an endorsement of the quality that the Mercur brand represents as we expand into the North American marketplace”, said Andreis. “By taking the top three places in core stationery and art supply products demonstrate the strength of Mercur in its local market.” In the U.S. Mercur initially launched erasers and color pencils but more products are expected to be added to its portfolio in 2009.
Not only did Mercur maintain its first place ranking in erasers, but it increased its brand presence in glue sticks in each of the previous years to secure 2nd place and for the first time competed in the liquid glue category with a 3rd place showing. Additionally, for the first time, Mercur was rated a leading brand in the Mechanical Pencil category.
The online survey contained 53 categories for stationery and information technology, in addition to special categories, focusing on marketing and distribution. There were a total of 1,345 respondents representing the principal distributors of school supplies. Mercur was reviewed in 10 categories against 20 brands and consistently counted in the top positions.
